Impending Laser/IPL regulations and licencing NOT going ahead!
In May 2015 a Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement [CRIS] was submitted to ARPANSA with recommendations for possible licencing of laser and IPL in the cosmetic industry. Comments [responses] on this document were then submitted by the medical, nursing and beauty industry and we have been waiting since 2015 for a Decision Regulatory Impact Statement [Decision RIS].
Update on Proposed Standards for Laser/IPL

I was in contact with the senior regulatory officer at ARPANSA recently, discussing the current position regarding the Regulatory Impact Statement consultation draft. Comments on this draft statement had until 31st July this year to be submitted. As they were still receiving submissions after the closing date, ARPANSA extended the timeline for receiving submissions.
New Laser / IPL Regulations

I have had an influx of phone calls and emails recent asking about “the new regulations” for laser and IPL use. What new regulations? There are no new regulations…..yet!
ASAPS Non-Surgical Symposium
Author: Trudy | June 2015
As usual ASAPS put on another excellent conference over the week-end. There were some interesting laser speakers including E. Victor Ross who I have seen talk many times in the USA, but he always has interesting information. Even if a lot of it is not new to me it is often confirmation and consolidation of knowledge. Or sometimes I hear a better way of explaining a tricky concept which is useful for my training courses.

When I returned from my overseas trip I had a day to wash my clothes then straight into COSMETEX! This cosmetic medical conference has been the standard for many years and really is a must on the Australian calendar. It obviously is nothing like the overseas events I had just attended as they were laser/light specific and this was all areas of cosmetic medicine, but it still had some fascinating talks on a range of topics...

I’ve been busy attending conferences recently, both here in Australia and overseas. It all started with attending the British Medical Laser Association [BMLA] conference in Brighton in May. I knew it was going to be a small event compared to others I go to but it was really, really worthwhile. The topics were excellent, and included some good speakers in my field of laser physics and safety. It is always interesting to hear how others present similar information...
Why 2 Days of Laser Safety Officer training?
Author: Trudy | September 2014
I have been asked recently why I run a 2 day Laser Safety Officer course when many other training establishments run it in 1 day or offer it on-line. The simple answer is that I include more in my course! Laser safety courses are based on the Guide to the Safe Use of Lasers in Healthcare, AS/ANZ 4173:2014.
First Year Anniversary
Author: Trudy | August 2014
Well, so much for wanting to write a regular blog, I’ve not written anything since the first post nearly a year ago! The reason [excuse!] is that since I’ve restructured my business I have been flat out working with no time to breathe. Concentrating on just my teaching without other training staff or a clinic to worry about has changed my life enormously.
